Fall Break on the Navigator of the Seas

A Family Adventure Down the Mexican Riviera

Fall break called for sunshine, sea days, and family fun, so we set sail on Royal Caribbean’s Navigator of the Seas for a 7-night Mexican Riviera cruise out of Los Angeles. From poolside relaxation and incredible dining to birthday balloon drops, silent disco parties, and kids club adventures, this trip was the perfect mix of excitement and ease. And of course, we can’t forget the beautiful ports of call!

The Ship: Fun, Familiar, and Family-Friendly

We absolutely love the Navigator of the Seas, this was our second time on this ship. It is one of Royal Caribbean’s mid-sized ships, which makes it easy to navigate (no pun intended!) while still offering plenty to do. The atmosphere is always fun, energetic, and family-friendly. There is always something happening around every corner, yet it still offers the right balance of relaxation when you need it.

Our favorite onboard activity? Definitely the Shush Party, a silent disco that had everyone, including the kids, dancing and laughing all night long! When we weren’t on the dance floor, you could find us at laser tag, at the pool or grabbing another round of soft-serve ice cream. 🍦

Our Staterooms: Cozy, Convenient, and Perfectly Connected

For this sailing, we booked two connecting Inside Promenade View cabins, and they worked out perfectly for our family. The setup gave us tons of space, two bathrooms (a total win when everyone’s trying to get ready at once), and separate beds for the kids, no fighting over who gets the sofa bed!

While we did miss the sea views a little, the people watching in the Promenade was great and this layout was incredibly cost-effective and comfortable. We would 100% book the same setup again for future cruises.

Dining: So Many Restaurants, So Little Time

Navigator of the Seas has a fantastic selection of specialty restaurants, so this time we decided to go all in and try the Unlimited Dining Package. Spoiler alert, we did not go hungry!

From fresh bread and creamy lasagna at Jaime’s Italian, to perfectly cooked filet mignon at Chops Grille, sushi at Izumi, and amazing coconut shrimp at Hooked Seafood, every meal felt like a treat. Speaking of treats…the Chocolate cake at all the restaurants was incredible!! The flexibility to choose wherever we wanted for lunch or dinner made dining stress-free and fun.

When we wanted something more casual, Playmakers was a great go-to spot for burgers and appetizers (and a few rounds of air hockey!). The kids practically lived at Café Promenade, where there was always hot, fresh pizza waiting for them, and Johnny Rockets by the pool made the perfect lunch stop between swim sessions.

Ports of Call: Cabo, Mazatlán & Puerto Vallarta

Our port days were a wonderful mix of adventure and relaxation, all easy, fun, and great for kids.

Puerto Vallarta: We grabbed a taxi to the Malecón, walked along the oceanfront boardwalk, and did a little shopping before heading back to the ship for (you guessed it!) more pool time.

Cabo San Lucas: We took a tender boat ashore, then boarded a catamaran excursion booked through the cruise line. We spent two hours sailing around the coastline and spotting sea lions near the famous Arch. The kids loved being on the open water and watching the sails catch the wind.

Mazatlán: After exploring a few of the port shops, we set sail on another catamaran, soaking up views of the city from the water.

💡 Cruising with Kids Tip: Booking excursions directly through the cruise line can take the stress out of port days. If plans change or the ship is delayed, your tour adjusts with it, which means no worrying about missing sailaway!

Adventure Ocean Kids Club: Big Fun for Little Cruisers

The Adventure Ocean Kids Club was a highlight for our boys. They loved the mix of playtime, games, and video games, which kept them happy and entertained. The staff was incredibly friendly and patient, and my oldest even got picked to be a “team leader” one day, which completely boosted his confidence.

Having the kids in the club gave my husband and me a few hours to relax, read by the pool, and enjoy uninterrupted conversation, something every parent knows is a luxury!

Final Thoughts

We love everything about the Navigator of the Seas, the service, the food, the entertainment, and the overall vibe. It’s a ship that truly caters to everyone, from kids to adults, with just the right mix of fun and relaxation.

If you’re looking for a stress-free, family-friendly getaway, I highly recommend sailing on Navigator of the Seas. Whether it’s your first cruise or your fifth, it’s a perfect way to escape, recharge, and make lifelong memories.
